Rules handed down from on high
A new personnel policy for employees of the Chestnut Hill Local (and maybe by extension, the CHCA) will be presented at the Chestnut Hill Community Association board of directors meeting tonight.
You haven't seen them?
Neither have some board members. Or employees. Or members of the community. It appears director of operations Dina Hitchcock, as is her habit, couldn't find copies for some board members or claimed they were sent but couldn't produce a backup for them.
Nice timing, Dina. It's the last board meeting before a new group assumes office, with no public discussion of this proposal beforehand, and it sets things up for another quick and dirty vote by the board.
Let's hope there's a labor lawyer at tonight's meeting who can take a look at this home-styled policy and tell us if it fits within the rule of law. God knows, everything else this board has touched has fallen apart.
On the other hand, people of Chestnut Hill have a choice in who represents the public face of the Hill. On May 6 a new community group known as Chestnut Hill Neighbors United will hold a public meeting on the Hill. It proposes no dues, a policy of town hall discussion of issues and will seek consensus on zoning and other issues to take to the appropriate city authorities when there are hearings on these same issues.

CHCA Directors: Please make sure that any new personnel policy has been (1) generated by a committee appointed specifically for this purpose, (2) reviewed and approved by an attorney selected by the Board and (3) recommended for Board consideration by the executive committee. If these things haven't been done, table any motion on this matter.
Why such important policy from a lame duck board? Do they anticipate a radical change in attitude and scope from the new board that will likely be heavily represented by business owners? I would think there would be more agreement than disagreement about how to "handle" the Local personnel. No quorum, no action? Does this mean the policy is tabled until after the election?
Ron Recko walked out to insure no quorum. Good move Ron. I saw the the "Handbook". On its cover under the title is printed "Approved by the board on.... and a blank space. Nothing like being sure, right Dina?
The rules about blogging are especially amusing. I'll print excerpts soon. It's kind of like the Bush Torture Memos as written by Dina concerning the Local.
So remember kids, just blog from home, use a pseudonym and you're fine.

Perhaps I should have guessed that new rules were written specifically to try to limit free speech. I am seething at the despicable conduct of Tolis (It's happening on your watch my friend. I suggest you read the United States Constitution.) and certain of his henchmen who have demonstrated they have no respect for the members of the community. I can not begin to say how bad this conduct is. I have never agreed with their abuse of Local editors and employees but this is way out of control. It is sad that it was only tabled because one Board member walked out.
Jeremiade, Jeremiade, your seething worries me about your health ... perhaps you should extend your reading beyond the text of the US Constitution itself, to the caselaw that interprets same, as well as other law that is applicable to the issue at hand. Your blood pressure may stabilize when you finally realize that your actual free speech rights are not being infringed. Remember, Jeremiade, a journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step, and I wish you good health and fair weather if you elect to commence a journey toward actual knowledge.
You write like Petee who has nothing to contribute either.
